BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a four-set decision (25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-17) to Limestone College Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium. LMC's record moves to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in Conference Carolinas play with the loss.
Set 1 – Lees-McRae and Limestone traded the first 20 points of the first set Saturday. After the score was knotted at 10 a side, the Saints scored three points in a row to pull in front for good as they won the opening set by a score of 25-20. Limestone's Francisco Cenzual paced his team's attack in the opening stanza with six kills.
Set 2 – The Saints put together their best offensive set of the contest in the second set. As a team, Limestone hit .364 on 22 attempts with 11 kills and three errors. Couple the hot-hitting from the Saints and four team blocks by Limestone, the Bobcats fell in the second 25-16 to go behind 2-0 in the contest.
Set 3 – Much like Limestone did in the second set, the Bobcats put forth their most efficient frame of the match in the third. The trio of Spencer Graf, Wes Rogman and Chris Woolslayer combined for 10 kills on 21 attacks to power LMC's attack. Lees-McRae also stepped up defensively totaling 5.5 blocks in the third. The improved offense and defense from LMC was enough to upend the Saints, 25-21.
Set 4 – After defeating Limestone in the third, the Bobcats struggled to maintain that momentum in the fourth. The Saints jumped out to a 7-1 lead on Lees-McRae, and never looked back as they finished off the four-set victory by winning the final frame, 25-17.
Stat Standouts – For the second straight match, Wes Rogman led the Bobcats with 17 kills on the afternoon. Rogman also chipped in seven block assists to lead the team. Robert Bowling added six kills, one solo block, five block assists and six digs.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return to action next Friday when they travel to Barton College for another Conference Carolinas clash. First serve between the Bobcats and Bulldogs is set for 7 p.m.
