MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision (25-14, 25-16, 25-13) on the road at Mount Olive Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Lees-McRae's record dips to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in league play.
Set 1 – UMO was able to defeat the Bobcats in the opening set mainly due to a few key runs during the frame. Mount Olive started the first on a 3-0 run before going on a 4-0 run later in the stanza to stake it to an early lead. The Trojans did not stop with those two runs as they closed out the first on a 7-1 run to close out the opening frame, 25-14.
Set 2 – When the two teams returned to the court for the second set, the Bobcats seemed to make some adjustments. LMC and UMO were tied at 12-12 at one point before the latter scored eight of the next nine points to change the score to 20-13 Trojans. The seven-point deficit proved too large for Lees-McRae to come back from as the Trojans picked up a 25-16 win to go up 2-0 in the contest.
Set 3 – Mount Olive closed out Saturday's match by keeping up its offensive productive it had in the first two sets. UMO closed out the match with 10 kills on 22 attacks with just one attack error for a .409 hitting percentage. On the flip side, the Bobcats struggled to get their offense clicking hitting -.120 on 25 attempts. The differential in offensive production was enough for the Trojans to finish off the Bobcats Saturday, 25-13.
Next Up – LMC will return to Williams Gymnasium Wednesday night when it plays host to rival King University. Wednesday's match is set for 7 p.m. first serve.
