FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Emmanuel College picked up a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-23, 25-19) of the Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team Friday night in Conference Carolinas action. The loss drops LMC's record to 2-16 overall and 0-10 in conference play on the 2018 campaign.
Set 1 – Early in the opening set of the Friday's match, the Bobcats and Lions were taking turns with the lead. The Lions, however, rattled off a 5-0 run to change the score from 8-8 to 13-8. The five-point hole proved too large for the Bobcats to dig out of as the Lions ended up picking up a 25-19 win in the first set. LMC did get within two points of Emmanuel on two different occasions but that was as close as it would get after the run by the Lions.
Set 2 – It looked like the Bobcats would even the match at a set a piece as they held a 15-12 lead on the Lions in the second. However, Emmanuel went on a 9-2 run to turn a three-point deficit into a four-point lead. As the Lions were on their run, the Bobcats called a pair of timeouts to regroup but it wasn't meant to be as Emmanuel extended its lead to 2-0 with a 25-23 win in the second set.
Set 3 – Much like the second set, the Bobcats had a lead midway through the third frame. That lead, which was 14-13, did not last as Emmanuel complied a 7-0 run to vault ahead of Lees-McRae for good winning the final set, 25-19. Lees-McRae did put together a 5-2 run of its own but it proved to be too late to complete the comeback.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return to action Saturday afternoon when they take on Erskine in a match on the road. LMC and the Flying Fleet are scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m.
