NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lees-McRae College men's volleyball player Michael Wahl was recognized Monday by being the Off the Block/Molton National Libero of the Week. Wahl is the second Bobcat player to receive a player of the week honor this season joining fellow freshman Robert Bowling who earned the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week honor back in January.
"Michael has done some really good things for us this season," said LMC Head Coach Henry Chuang. "We've utilized his skills as a passer as well as an attacker, and he also adapted and ran our offense for several matches in the second half of the season. It's always nice to see our guys get recognition for their efforts."
Wahl finished last week with a total of 29 digs against North Greenville, Mount Olive and Barton. The North Canton, Ohio native was instrumental in LMC's four-set win over NGU last Wednesday as he notched a career-high 14 wins in the victory. For the season, Wahl is second on the team with 140 digs.
The National Position Player of the Week Awards recognize the libero, middle attacker, opposite, outside attacker and setter who had the best performances in NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball during the week.
The Off the Block staff determines each award recipient. In addition, the winners are announced every Monday during the regular season on the Off the Block website, offtheblockblog.com.
In addition to Wahl's recognition, teammate and fellow freshman Ethan Gardner was named as a finalist for the organization's National Freshman of the Week honor.
Wahl and the rest of the Bobcats will return to action this Friday when they host Erskine at Williams Gymnasium in their regular season finale. First serve between the Bobcats and Flying Fleet is set for 7 p.m.
