Bobcats prepare for three league matches this week

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team will be back in action this week with a trio of Conference Carolinas matches. First, Lees-McRae will host Belmont Abbey on Wednesday before heading out the road to Emmanuel on Friday and Erskine on Saturday. Wednesday's and Friday's matches are set for a 7 p.m. start time, and Saturday's tilt is slated to begin at 2 p.m.

Last time out – Lees-McRae dropped a three-set decision to North Greenville last Saturday at Williams Gymnasium. The loss pushes Lees-McRae's record to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

Libero stat update – One of the highlights of the season so far has been the play of libero Chris Woolslayer. The junior from Doylestown, Pennsylvania currently ranks second in the conference averaging 2.56 digs per set. Only Mount Olive's Joel Roberts has averaged more digs per set than Woolslayer checking in at 2.78.

About the opponents – Belmont Abbey enters Wednesday's contest in Banner Elk with a record of 2-2 overall and 0-1 in league action. Individually, the Crusaders are led by Liam Maxwell who leads the team in kills and aces so far in 2019.

Emmanuel comes into this week's action sporting a record of 3-4 on the season. The Lions are riding a three-match losing skid with all three contests being Conference Carolinas matchups. A player to watch for the Lions is Don Thompson as the middle blocker ranks in the top five in the conference in both kills (75) and blocks (28).

Finally, Erskine is 2-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Flying Fleet owns victories over Cincinnati Christian and North Greenville this spring. Griffin Spence currently sits second in Conference Carolinas with 84 kills this season.

Series histories vs. opponents – With all three matches this week being league contests, there is no shortage of history between the Bobcats and their opponents. Lees-McRae is 6-7 all-time against Belmont Abbey, 3-5 against Emmanuel and 3-9 versus Erskine.
