WILSON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision (18-25, 11-25, 16-25) on the road at Barton Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action. The loss pushes Lees-McRae's record to 1-10 overall and 0-8 in conference action.
Set 1 – Lees-McRae and Barton were tight on the scoreboard for the majority of the first part of the opening frame Saturday. However, with the score reading 13-11 Barton, the Bulldogs rattled off a 7-2 run to grow their lead to seven. That deficit proved too large for the Bobcats to overcome as they dropped the opening frame, 25-18.
Set 2 – The Bulldogs came out after winning the first frame with their offense clicking on all cylinders. As team, Barton hit .526 on 19 attacks on its way to a convincing 25-11 victory in the second frame over Lees-McRae.
Set 3 – Barton maintained this momentum in the third and final frame. The Bulldogs scored the first nine points of the set and 11 of the first 12 to put the Bobcats in an early hole. After that point, the Bobcats outscored the Bulldogs 16-15 but that early surge by the latter proved to be the difference.
Stat Standouts – Drew Sims paced the Bobcats scoring 10.5 points Saturday. Sims had an efficient day attacking hitting .385 with three aces and one block assist in the contest. Sophomore Ethan Gardner also had good day offensively attacking at a .444 clip with five kills.
Next up – Lees-McRae will head out on the road again next Saturday when it visits North Greenville in another league matchup. First serve between the Bobcats and Crusaders is set for 7 p.m.
