BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team will be back in action this week as it travels to Alderson Broaddus on Thursday before heading to Ohio State on Friday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. each day.
Last time out – The Bobcats fell in their last match to Lincoln Memorial in four sets (25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18). The loss pushes Lees-McRae's record to 1-13 on the 2019 campaign.
Highlights from Lincoln Memorial match – Despite falling to the Railsplitters, the Bobcats did have some highlights from the match. Drew Sims totaled at least nine kills for the fifth time this season, while Jeffrey Olson totaled a career-high six kills on 10 attacks. Finally, Chris Woolslayer finished the match with his fifth double-digit dig outing of the season finishing with 10.
Nearing the end of the road schedule – The two matches this week will be the final two non-conference road tilts for Lees-McRae this season. After this week, the Bobcats only have trips to league rivals Belmont Abbey (March 19) and Limestone (March 29) remaining this season.
About the opponents – Alderson Broaddus enters Thursday's tilt with the Bobcats still in search of its first win of the season. The Battlers are currently 0-10 this season and have not played a match since February 17. Individually, ABU is led by Cameron Snaden who paces the team with 127 points scored this season.
Ohio State, meanwhile, is 6-14 in 2019 and are currently riding a three-match losing skid. The Buckeyes have played one of the tougher schedules in the country as they have played 10 ranked opponents so far. However, the Buckeyes have fared well playing at home as five of their six wins have come in Columbus.
Series history vs. opponents – Lees-McRae is 1-3 all-time against Alderson Broaddus with the last matchup occurring last season in Banner Elk. The Battlers came away with a five-set victory in that particular contest.
Ohio State and Lees-McRae have faced each other a total of three times with the Buckeyes coming out on top in all three matches. The last matchup between the two programs occurred at the beginning of the 2014 season where Buckeyes swept the Bobcats in three sets.
