BELMONT, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team came up on the losing side of a 3-0 decision on the road at Belmont Abbey College Tuesday night (25-15, 25-19, 25-15).
Set 1 – The opening set of Tuesday's contest was a close one to start things off. After a Belmont Abbey attack error, the scoreboard read 9-8 Crusaders with the Bobcats with the serve. It was after this point though that Belmont Abbey started to find itself. BAC went on a 6-1 run to turn a one-point lead into a six-point advantage. The Crusaders would continue to build this advantage to as many as 10 points in the first set, which proved to be the margin of victory, 25-15.
Set 2 – The second stanza proved to be very similar to the opening frame. Lees-McRae and Belmont Abbey were knotted up at 8-8 after a Bobcat service error. BAC found its groove again with a long run to pull in front. This time the Crusader run was built by scoring eight of 10 points during a stretch to change the score to 16-10. Lees-McRae was able to get the Belmont Abbey down to five a couple times after that point but that's as close as its comeback attempts would come as BAC took the second frame, 25-19.
Set 3 – In what proved to be the final set of Tuesday's match, Belmont Abbey jumped on the Bobcats scoring the first three points in the frame. Facing an early deficit, the Bobcats weren't able to cut much into the Crusader advantage throughout the third set. Belmont Abbey was able to build its lead to as many as 10 points as it won the third frame, 25-15, to complete the sweep.
Next Up – Lees-McRae will return home on Friday to host Emmanuel (GA) College in another Conference Carolinas contest. The Bobcats and Lions are scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
