BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 3-0 loss (25-22, 25-21, 25-16) to Queens University of Charlotte Tuesday evening at Williams Gymnasium.

Set 1 – Lees-McRae came out swinging in the opening stanza of Tuesday's match. The Bobcats totaled a match-high 14 kills in the opening frame. Senior Hector Serviat accounted for six of these kills by himself on nine attacks for a .333 hitting percentage. Even with Serviat and the rest of the Bobcats playing well, the Royals had an answer. The turning point of the first set came when the Royals turned a slim 15-14 lead into a 23-17 lead. Lees-McRae was able to get the deficit back down to a pair of points at 24-22 but Queens closed out the first set with a kill to take the frame, 25-22.

Set 2 – As the second set rolled around, Queens found an impressive rhythm offensively. The Royals hit a blistering .519 with 15 kills on 27 attacks with just one error in the second set. The Bobcats did not have a bad frame offensively hitting a respectable .304 on 23 attacks. The duo of Serviat and Ethan Gardner each had three kills to lead these efforts. After a Serviat kill made it 22-20 Queens, the Royals scored three of the next four points to finish off the stanza, 25-21.

Set 3 – The Royals were able to keep their momentum that they built in the first two sets in the third. Backed by a .529 hitting percentage, Queens led by as many as 11 points in the final frame of the match. The Bobcats were close the gap down to seven at 22-15 but it proved too late as the Royals closed Tuesday's match out, 25-16.

Next Up – The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday when they host league rival Mount Olive. Prior to the match, the athletic department will recognize National Student Athlete Day by hosting a Sundae Social in the front lobby of Williams Gymnasium. Additionally, Lees-McRae will honor its lone senior on this season's team in Hector Serviat. First serve for Friday's match is set for 7 p.m.
