WINGATE, NC - The Lees-McRae College men's cross country team finished fifth at the NCAA DII Southeast Regionals held at Wingate University, Saturday, November 8th. For the Bobcats this was a great finish to their season as they have been ranked seventh for most of the year.
"We are a young team with four freshmen in our top seven," said
Coach Craig McPhail. "We have a lot to look forward to, and I am
really proud of how they performed today. Our training all year
has been solid, and we put together a great race plan and had a
solid top five today."
Leading the way for the Bobcats was junior Nate Trimble (Houston, Texas) as he finished 22nd. He was followed closely by Conference Carolinas freshmen of the year Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, S.C.) in 26th place, and teammate Chris Holstein (Middleburg, Fla.) was in 27th place. Freshman Cody Hodgins (Cornelius, N.C.) came in 32nd, and freshman Jordan Gillespie finished in 42nd to help give the Bobcats the fifth place finish.
By finishing fifth the Bobcats avenged their Conference Carolinas loss to St. Andrews Presbyterian College by beating them by two points and left themselves just three points shy of finishing fourth on the day.
This wraps up the Bobcats cross country season as they take some time off and begin preparation for the indoor track season.
