Elizabethton, Tenn. - The 2009 Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's cross-country might be one of the best the program has ever offered as they cruised to a win at the Stampede at the Shoals Cross Country Invitational.
Head coach Thomas Cason earned his first win as the new coach.
In the four-team race, Lees-McRae finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th 8th and 15th and won the event with a score of 20 to beat Milligan, Tusculum and Emory and Henry.
With sophomores Michael Davis (Independence, Va.) and Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, S.C.) leading the way finishing second and third respectively. The 6k course was run at Sycamore Shoals National Park.
"It was good for me to see the guys race after watching them in workouts," Cason said. "We have some work to do, but this should be a fun year for all of us as we strive for our goals everyday."
Up next for the Bobcats will be the Mountaineer Open, at The Greenway Fields in Boone, Friday, September 18th at 5 p.m.
