Bobcats Finish Fifth at Mountaineer Open

BOONE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's cross-country team took fifth place at the Mountaineer Open Friday afternoon a against a field of Division I and II runners.

The Bobcats had a total of 177 and finished tied for fifth with UNC-Wilmington.

Leading the way for the Bobcats was Craig Simpkins in 30th place with a time of 21:13.82, and Sondre Thorbergsen, who finished 28th with a time of 21:27.21. Michael Davis finished 48th with a time of 21:45.77 rounding out the Bobcats in the top 50.

Chris Holstein finished with a time of 21:54.88, and Nate Trimble ran a time of 22:08.30 rounding out the Bobcats top five finishers.

"The men's team ran together well through the first half of the race, then faded the second half," head coach Thomas Cason said. "This meet highlighted to our team certain aspects that we must improve if we want to achieve our team goals by seasons end."
