ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, N.C.) earned his second top ten finish of the season, finishing fifth overall to pace the Lees-McRae College men's cross country team to a third place finish at the Winthrop Asics Invitational on Saturday.
Simpkins finished the race in fifth place, registering a time of 26:22.46 in the 8K event, notching his second straight top-five finish. Sondre Thorbegsen (Tranoy, Norway) finished just over 20 seconds later, recording a time of 26:43.70 to place seventh. Michael Davis (15th/27:33.01), Austin High (21st/28:21.27) and Luke Anton (22nd/28:23.75) rounded out the Bobcat top five.
The Bobcats took home a third place finish, amassing 70 points to finish behind Mars Hill College (34) and Conference Carolinas foe Mount Olive (41). Spartanburg Methodist College (120) and Belmont Abbey College (120) rounded out the top-five in men's competition.
The Lees-McRae women registered a fourth place finish, tallying 101 points, just ahead of Belmont Abbey (105) and finishing behind Mount Olive (53), Spartanburg Methodist (61), and Converse (80).
Hannah Henderson (Canvas, W. Va.) pushed to her second top ten of the season, finishing in eighth place, just ahead of teammate Kira Shoemaker (Aiken, S.C.) in Saturday's competition. Henderson finished in eighth place with a time of 20:44.68 to pace Lees-McRae to a fourth place finish.
Shoemaker tallied a ninth place finish, registering a time of 21:24.46 for the Lady Bobcats, while Cinthia Lehner (24th/22:12.99) finished third on the squad.
The Bobcats take to the trail next traveling to Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, October 1, for the UNC Charlotte Invitational.
