BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's cross country team looks to build on its solid 2010 season with an even better campaign in 2011, as the Bobcats are slated to run a demanding schedule in the chase for the program's ninth Conference Carolinas championship.
Lees-McRae returns five letter-winners from last year's squad, which finished third at the Conference Carolinas Championships and eighth at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships. Head Coach Thomas Cason welcomes back four seniors this season, including 2010 all-conference second team selection Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, S.C.).
The Bobcats will kick off the 2011 season on Sep. 2, traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. to participate in the Eye Opener Invitational, hosted by USC Upstate. Lees-McRae then makes the journey to Newton, N.C. for the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational on Sep. 10, before traveling to Greensboro N.C. on Sep. 24 to take part in UNC Greensboro's Greensboro XC Invitational.
Coach Cason's squad will return home on Oct. 1 to host the LMC Green-Gold Invitational, which will take place on the LMC Carla Trails as part of homecoming weekend. The Bobcats close out the regular season on Oct. 14, traveling to Boone, N.C. to participate in ASU's Blue Ridge Open, before making the trip to Charlotte, N.C. on Oct. 21 for the Conference Carolinas Championships.
