Anton, Thorbergsen named to Conference Carolinas all-Academic team

HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Two members of the Lees-McRae College men's cross country team have been named to the all-Conference Carolinas Academic team, announced league officials Thursday.

Luke Anton (Hendersonville, N.C.) and Sondre Thorbergsen (Tranoy, Norway) have been named to the conference's all-academic team for the second time in their careers, having also earned the honor last season. Lees-McRae's duo is tied with Queens University of Charlotte for the second-most in the conference, as North Greenville University placed four on the team.

Anton has run well this fall, posted several solid finishes while helping the Bobcats record numerous strong performances. A native of Hendersonville, N.C., Anton recorded a season-best time of 28:24 at the Conference Carolinas Championships, while posting his top finish of the fall at the Blue Ridge Open with a 31st-place performance. Anton is majoring in communication arts with a minor in English.

Thorbergsen put together a strong season in limited action with the Bobcats this fall, running in a pair of races and posting a personal-best sixth place finish at the Greensboro Invitational on Sep. 24. The Tranoy, Norway native ran his best time of the season at the Charlotte Invitational, crossing the line with a mark of 26:53. Thorbergsen is majoring in psychology.

Lees-McRae is expected to return six runners from this year's squad, including rising seniors Tyler Dunn (Jasper, Ga.), Connor Gray (Christiansburg, Va.), and Jared Lupton (Nampa, Idaho).
