BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country programs released their 2018 schedules Thursday morning. The Bobcats are scheduled to compete in six races during their regular seasons before the Conference Carolinas Championship Meet and NCAA Division II Regional Meet in November.
"I am very excited to start the 2018 men's cross country season as we have a strong veteran team led by some very talented seniors as well as adding some talented freshman to the mix should allow for a very good season," said LMC Head Coach Ley Fletcher. "My hopes are we will continue to improve and have another top three finish at the conference championship meet this year and hopefully break into the top 10 at the NCAA II Region Championship Meet."
The men's team, which will welcome four new runners to the team this fall, is coming off back-to-back seasons where the team finished second at the Conference Carolinas Championship meet. Among the returning runners this season are All-Conference Carolinas Third Team performers in Austin Thompson and Nolan Capps.
"I am looking forward to a much improved season as we have two very good veteran runners in Jordyn Halvorsen and Sarah Bowman," Fletcher said about the women's team. "Both made huge improvements during the spring outdoor track and field season and I am expecting that not to change this fall as I look for both to continue to improve and lead this team to a great season. We have added some good depth to our team with a good freshman class. We should be much improved and I can't wait to watch this team's progress."
The women's cross country squad will have several new faces on the team this season with seven new student-athletes. This group of new Bobcats will join returners Halvorsen, Bowman and Kaela Kelly.
The Bobcats will get their 2018 seasons underway on September 1 when they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to compete in the Chik-Fil-A XC Invitational.
