MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country programs put forth strong performances in the Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships Saturday in Mount Olive, North Carolina. The men's team finished second for the third consecutive season, while the women's team posted its best finish at a conference meet since 2011 finishing seventh. Additionally, Brianne Heard, Austin Thompson and Tristin Bertie all earned All-Conference Carolinas honors after finishing in the top 15 of their respective races.
Men's Recap – Overall, there were 79 runners that took the course Saturday morning in the men's race. Of these 79 runners, the Bobcats had seven runners within the top 26 finishes on the day. Bertie led the way finishing 13th with Thompson a spot behind his teammate in 14th.
Shawn Graves narrowly missed out on All-Conference honors finishing 18th. The quartet of Joshua Hall (21st), Anton Ledell (23rd), Lane Graves (24th) and Andrew Ybarra (26th) also posted stellar times as well to power the Bobcats to their third straight second place finish at the conference meet.
Women's Recap – The women's team was led Saturday by Heard. Heard finished 13th in her first league meet of her collegiate career with a time of 24:21.6. With her 13th place finish, Heard becomes the first Bobcat to be named All-Conference from the women's team since 2012. Senior Jordyn Halvorsen also placed in the upper half of finishes on the day finishing 29th with a time of 25:16.5.
Next Up – The Bobcats will be back in action on November 17 when they compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional Meet in Oakwood, Georgia.
