Seven Lady Bobcats Named All-America Scholar Athletes

Seven members of the 2006 Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats softball team have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All America Scholar Athletes list. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must demonstrate high academic achievement throughout the academic and carry no less than a 3.5 grade point average.

Lady Bobcats earning All-American Scholar Athlete status include Keri Austin (Hudson, NC), Dakota Beck (Hillsborough, NC), Ashlyn Birmingham (Mooresville, NC), Talia Freeman (Vilas, NC), Kasey McHone (King, NC), Hannah Morgan (Garner, NC) and Emma Parrish (Otto, NC).

With over half of the Lady Bobcats roster, (63%), earning Academic All America, Head Coach Julie Kennedy certainly has the Lady Bobcats program heading in the right direction. "I could not be prouder of our ladies for their commitment to academics," commented Head Coach Julie Kennedy. The Lady Bobcats were also ranked #32 in the nation by the NFCA in team academic performance in early October, after cracking the top 50 with a #49 ranking in '04-'05. On the field last season, the Lady Bobcats jumped from a preseason ranking of 11th in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference to finish the season in fifth place, falling in the CVAC quarterfinals.
