Softball Signs Two Early

Head Softball Coach Julie Kennedy is proud to announce the Written Commitment of student-athletes Anna Carter and Leslie Taylor during the NCAA Early Signing period. Both ladies will enroll at Lees-McRae and play softball for the Lady Bobcats beginning in the fall of 2007.

An infielder hailing from Hurdle Mills, NC, Carter has experience playing both corners of the diamond, but will focus on first base during her collegiate career as a Lady Bobcat. "Anna will add defensive steadiness and provide an offensive spark for our team next year," commented Kennedy. "She is a humble, yet talented player who fits our team concept very nicely."

Carter played error free during the regular season for Pearson High School during 2006 and also gained valuable experience playing for the NC Dominators travel club.

Taylor, from Richlands High School in North Carolina, is a well rounded player and student, with a high degree of success in both academics and athletics. Leslie will be competing both on the mound and in the outfield for the Lady Bobcats next year.

"Leslie Taylor's track record athletically and academically lends to a quiet, yet persistent work ethic," says Kennedy. "She is certainly the kind of person we look for in a softball player here at Lees-McRae."

The Lady Bobcats return seven letterwinners from last season's squad, including sophomore Dakota Beck, (pictured top left), who led the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference in battinng average during her freshman campaign. In 2006, the Lady Bobcats improved upon a preseason CVAC ranking of 11th, falling in the CVAC quarterfinals to finish in fifth.
