The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats softball team rattled off four straight wins and returned home with a 5-1 record from their spring break trip to Savannah, GA, improving to 8-15 for the season. In the victories, the Lady Bobcats held their opponents to four runs or less, earning one shutout.
In the first game of the trip, Amanda Dodson held David & Elkins College scoreless while allowing one hit, walking four and striking out nine in a 6-4 win. Jessica Kinsey came on in relief and ran into some hot bats from the opposition, allowing four runs, before Nicole Baxter relieved Kinsey to earn the save, giving up one hit. Megan Davis and Salle Horner led the way from the plate for the Lady Bobcats, each going two for three with Davis belting a homerun.
The Lady Bobcats bats came alive in a 12-1 game two win as eight hitters tallied 12 hits and nine RBI. Dodson, Davis, Sara Travis, and MJ Williams each went two for three with Travis picking up four RBI. Davis and Williams each added homeruns while Baxter earned the win on the mound going five innings, giving up seven hits and three runs.
After a day off, the Lady Bobcats opened up a double header against Edward Waters College with a 22-1 win. Baxter, Kinsey, and Lauren Gisler would all fair well on the mound for the Lady Bobcats and the defense held its own allowing just one run. In game two, both the offense and defense stepped up, scoring eleven and earning the Lady Bobcats second shutout of the season.
A slow start would cost Lees-McRae against Kutztown University, as a four run first inning by the Bears proved to hold up for a 10-6 win. Dodson was perfect at the plate going two for two with three RBI while Paula Fryar contributed a three run homerun and Keri Austin went two for four from the plate.
The Lady Bobcats would quickly bounce back with a 7-4 win over Chowan University as Kinsey, (pictured top left), turned in a stellar performance on the mound striking out six. Williams went three for four from the plate while Dakota Beck picked up three RBI and a homerun going two for four. The defense was also once again up to the task, picking up two key double plays to preserve the win.
