Lady Bobcats Sweep Pfeiffer

The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats swept Pfeiffer University, winning 4-3 and 15-7, in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference action. The Lady Bobcats improve to 3-19, (3-9 CVAC).

The Lady Bobcats took the early lead after Keri Austin and Dakota Beck singled. After Amanda Dodson popped up for an easy catch by the Lady Falcons catcher, Paula Fryar doubled to bring in Austin. The Lady Falcons struck back in the sixth, scoring three to take a 3-1 lead into the seventh. After holding Pfeiffer scoreless in the top of the inning, Lees-McRae took to the plate with their number four-six hitters. Dodson got things started with a double and advanced to third on a ground out by Fryar. Melody Jo Williams' single allowed Dodson to score to cut the deficit to one. After Williams had stole second, she scored on an error by Pfeiffer's third baseman, as the determined Lady Bobcats continued to claw their way back to tie the score at three. Nicole Baxter came in to pinch run for Sara Travis, who reached first on the error and second on a single by Emma Parrish. At the top of the order for the Lady Bobcats, Salle Horner, (pictured top left), singled, scoring Baxter from second to give the Lady Bobcats the first game of the double header. Dodson went the distance on the mound for the Lady Bobcats giving up four hits while striking out nine.

The second game of the afternoon featured plenty of offence as the teams exchanged a pair of runs in the first inning. The Lady Falcons put up five in the second to the Lady Bobcats three to hold a 7-5 lead heading into the third. Lees-McRae held the Lady Falcons scoreless in the third while tripping the lead to 7-6 with a home run from Megan Davis. After holding Pfeiffer scoreless again in the fourth, the Lady Bobcats exploded with nine runs in the fourth. Davis belted her second home run of the day scoring three while Horner also knocked one out scoring Ashlyn Birmingham. Baxter, Lauren Gisler, Jessica Kinsey and Dodson all saw time on the mound for the Lady Bobcats, with Dodson picking up the win while striking out a pair.

The Lady Bobcats will return to CVAC action when they travel to Erskine College for a double header April 9th.
