HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats season ended on day two of the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament Saturday after a 6-0 win over Barton and a 3-1 loss to Belmont Abby to dismiss the team from the tournament.
The Lady Bobcats finished the year with a 22-20 overall record. It is the first time in ten seasons the team has finished the season with a winning record.
In game one against Barton, Amanda Dodson threw her second complete game of the tournament recording eight strikeouts and only allowing six hits.
The Lady Bobcats got on the scoreboard in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Paula Fryar and Magen West giving Lees-McRae a 2-0 lead.
Lees-McRae added another run in the bottom of the second inning on a Meagen Knowles RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the third inning Anna Carter and Nicole Baxter provided back-to-back RBI singles to push the lead to 5-0, and in the fourth Dodson blasted a solo homerun to score the final run of the game and make it 6-0. Dodson's homerun was the team's only extra base hit of the game.
Fryar led the Lees-McRae offense by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Carter and Ashley Benfield also had two hits in three at bats.
In game two against Belmont Abbey, Lees-McRae took an early 1-0 lead when Dodson reached on an error and scored on a Carter single.
Belmont Abbey's offense stalled against starter West, who worked six innings and gave up no runs and recorded five strikeouts.
But, after a pitching change in the seventh, The Abbey tied the game at one on three singles and a walk.
Neither team scored in the seventh sending it into extra innings where The Abbey notched two runs in the top of ninth to earn the 3-1 victory.
The Abbey outhit the Lady Bobcats 12-5 in the game.
Carter was 1-for-4 with the team's only RBI. Dodson, West, Baxter and Ollier also had one hit apiece
