Cunningham K's 10 in Two Appearances; Softball Downed by Mars Hill

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Sarah Tucker launched her third home run and freshman Kara Cunningham struck out 10 in two appearances while the Lees-McRae softball fell twice to Mars Hill Monday afternoon at the LMC Softball Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

Mars Hill 4, Lees-McRae 0
The Lions improved to 12-20 after a complete game shutout effort from Lacee Hunsucker. The Bobcats fell to 7-30.

MHU struck for three first-inning runs after a pair of doubles and a run-scoring single.

The Lions scratched across another run in the top of the second with a leadoff double, stolen base and RBI single.

Cunningham (Indian Trail, N.C.) pitched well by allowing two hits in six innings of relief. She struck out six batters, including five out of six batters, at one point.

Emily Merriam (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), Tucker (Monroe, N.C.) and Kasey Klutz (Leland, N.C.) recorded LMC's hits.

Mars Hill 13, Lees-McRae 1 (5 Innings)
The Lions bumped their record to 13-20 after a five-RBI performance from Taylor Lail. The Bobcats dropped to 7-31 despite a multi-hit game from Merriam.

Tucker blasted her third long ball of the season in the bottom of the fourth.

Merriam turned in her fourth multi-hit contest after going 2-for-2.

Charlie Dutton (Monroe, Ga.) (2-11) suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs in two innings of work.

The Bobcats welcome Barton for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader Sunday, April 17 at 2&4 p.m. in Banner Elk, N.C.
