ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University (S.C.) won back-to-back games from the Lees-McRae College softball team Sunday winning those games by scores of 4-1 and 6-1. LMC's record dips to 0-6 with the pair of defeats.
Game 1: Lees-McRae was hurt by three errors in the first game of the day Sunday. Those three miscues by the Bobcats allowed the Trojans to score four unearned runs off LMC starting pitcher Taylor Billings on their way to a 4-1 victory. The four runs of support was more than enough for Anderson's starter Augie Pena who pitched all seven innings and tallied nine strikeouts.
In addition to pitching in game one, Billings also accounted for the only run by the Bobcats in the contest with a solo home run in the fifth inning. The long ball was the first of Billings's career in 144 career at-bats. Valerie Hickey notched the other hit for Lees-McRae in game one with a single in the fourth inning.
Game 2: The Bobcats pounded out a season-high six hits in game two, but it proved to not be enough as the Bobcats dropped game two to the Trojans as well, 6-1. Lees-McRae's starting pitcher Charlie Dutton was hurt by the long ball in her second start of the season as the Trojans hit a pair off Dutton. The two home runs accounted for four of the team's six runs.
Dutton took the loss in the circle dropping her record to 0-2 on the season after allowing six runs on nine hits in four-and-one third innings. Dutton also went 2-for-3 to lead LMC's efforts at the plate, while Kirsten Doss drove in the team's run with a single in the fifth.
Next Up: LMC will look to notch its first win of the season Wednesday when it returns the field at Lincoln Memorial in a non-conference doubleheader. The start times for those games are slated for 1 and 3 p.m.
