HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College won a pair of games against the Lees-McRae College softball team Wednesday afternoon. The Cobras won the first game of the day by a score of 6-2 before wrapping the day's action with a 12-1 victory in game two. The losses drop LMC's record to 8-14 on the 2017 season.
Game 1: Coker jumped on Lees-McRae starter Megan Paradise for four runs (three earned) in the opening inning to account for all the offense it would need as it went on to win game one, 6-2.
Kara Cunningham, who came in to relieve Paradise, tossed the final five-and-two-thirds innings and allowed just one earned run in her outing. Cunningham also led LMC's offense going 2-for-3 and drove in one of the team's two runs. Sarah Tucker, Karly McRary and Sarah Stallings accounted for the other three hits for the Bobcats. Tucker also drove in the other run for LMC in the contest.
Game 2: In the second game of the day, the two teams played a pair of scoreless innings to begin the contest. Following that, however, Coker's offense exploded with 12 runs in the third inning on its way to a 12-1 win in five innings to complete the doubleheader sweep of the Bobcats.
Noel Cassidy paced the Bobcat offense in game two going 2-for-3 and drove in the team's lone run in the contest. In the circle, Gabrielle Moyer took her first loss of the season after she allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits in two innings of work. The loss dips Moyer's record to 3-1 in 2017.
Next Up: The Bobcats will be back in action Thursday when they take on Wingate in another non-conference doubleheader. That twin bill is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.
