GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team dropped a pair of games to open its Conference Carolinas schedule Saturday afternoon at Limestone by scores of 5-0 and 9-1 in five innings. The losses drop LMC's record to 8-18 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Game 1: Limestone scored one run in the first and added four more in the second to account for all the offense in game one as it went on to defeat the Bobcats by a score of 5-0. The Saints' pitching staff held LMC's offense to five hits in the contest.
Emily Merriam led LMC at the plate going 2-for-3. It marked the second straight game that Merriam posted a pair of hits. Sarah Tucker, Valerie Hickey and Sarah Stallings accounted for the other team's hits.
Kara Cunningham took the loss in the circle for the Bobcats in game one dropping her record to 4-5. Cunningham settled down after allowing five runs in the first two innings to pitch four scoreless innings to close out her outing.
Game 2: LMC and Limestone played a pair of scoreless innings to begin the second game of the day. Following the first two innings, however, Limestone's offense exploded to score nine runs to complete the doubleheader sweep of the Bobcats, 9-1, in five innings.
Limestone's starting pitcher Josie Weber kept LMC's offense in check holding the Bobcats to just two hits. Caitlyn Ray had one of those with a double, while Kirsten Doss had the other base hit. Karly McRary drove in Ray for LMC's lone run Saturday.
Gabrielle Moyer was handed her second loss of 2017 dropping her record to 3-2. Moyer allowed nine runs (five earned) on eight hits in four innings.
Next Up: The Bobcats will hit the road for a four-game road swing next weekend as they visit Erskine Saturday and Emmanuel (GA) Sunday for a pair of doubleheaders. The start time for both days is slated for 1 p.m.
