BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team dropped a pair of games to North Greenville Wednesday afternoon at the LMC Softball Field. NGU shut out the Bobcats in game one, 5-0, before completing the sweep with a 6-4 victory in game two. With Wednesday's results, LMC's record moves to 14-22 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
Game One Recap – The story of the first game of the day was NGU's starting pitcher Amanda Coffrin. Coffrin allowed four hits, did not walk a batter and racked up five strikeouts in a 5-0 shutout of the Bobcats.
In the circle, Kara Cunningham took the loss for the Bobcats moving her record to 14-10 on the spring. Cunningham tossed four-and-two-thirds innings, allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks in her outing.
Game Two Recap – It looked like North Greenville would pitch another shutout of the Bobcats in game two as it led 5-0 heading to the sixth inning. Freshman Katie Robinson, however, had other ideas as she connected on a three-run home run to get the Bobcats on the board. LMC added another run in the seventh, but the Crusaders held on for the 6-3 victory.
In addition to her home run, Robinson also picked up a single to finish game two with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Caitlyn Ray, Sarah Beth Thomas, Emily Merriam, Chelsea Digregorio and Tucker also notched hits in game two. Thomas drove in the team's other run in the contest in the seventh inning.
Gabrielle Moyer made just her second start of the season in the circle for LMC. Moyer took the loss after pitching three-and-one third innings allowing four runs on six hits. Cassidy Largen, Merriam and Cunningham also logged innings in the circle in relief of Moyer in game two.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return to action this Friday when they host Emmanuel College in another Conference Carolinas twin bill. First pitch between Lees-McRae and Emmanuel is set for 2 p.m.
