    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lees-McRae College softball player Kara Cunningham was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) All-American Second Team Wednesday night at the NCAA Division II Championship banquet in Denver, Colorado. Cunningham becomes the first Bobcat softball player to ever be named an All-American in the history of the program.

    DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College softball team saw its memorable 2019 season come to an end Friday afternoon in Dahlonega, Georgia. The Bobcats did pick up their first-ever NCAA Tournament win as they knocked off Coker College, 1-0, in nine innings before falling to No. 5 North Georgia by a score of 3-2 in 12 innings to end their season. Lees-McRae finishes 2019 with a record of 22-19.

    BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College softball player Kara Cunningham was honored twice on Thursday by being named to the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) All-Region First Team and to the D2CCA All-Region Second Team. Cunningham becomes the first Bobcat softball player to ever be recognized with an All-Region selection.

    BANNER ELK, N.C. – After capturing the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship late last month, the Lees-McRae College softball team will look to maintain that momentum this week when it makes its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history. The Bobcats will open the tournament with a matchup against the University of North Georgia on Thursday afternoon in Dahlonega, Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

    INDIANAPOLIS - The Lees-McRae College softball team learned not only the destination but also its opponent for its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament Monday morning. The Bobcats, who earned the No. 8 seed in the Southeast Region, will make their NCAA Tournament debut Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when they will take on the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Georgia.

    BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team made history Sunday afternoon as it captured its first-ever Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship by defeating Southern Wesleyan University by a score of 2-0. The Bobcats, who entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed, are the lowest seed to win the league tournament since 2012 when King University captured the title after finishing the season fifth in the league as well.

    BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team defeated Southern Wesleyan by a score of 3-1 in its only game on day two of the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament Saturday afternoon in Burlington, North Carolina. With the victory, the Bobcats will advance to the final day of the conference tournament for just the second time in the program’s history on Sunday.

    BURLINGTON, N.C. – Three members of the Lees-McRae College softball team received All-Conference Carolinas recognition Thursday evening at the league banquet. Senior Kara Cunningham was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and to the All-Conference Carolinas Second Team as a pitcher. Fellow senior Emily Merriam was the All-Conference Carolinas First Team honoree at Designated Player, while freshman Faith Cooke received All-Conference Carolinas Second Team honors at third base.

The five Bobcats to receive this honor were: Noel Cassidy, Kara Cunningham, Emily Merriam, Gabrielle Moyer and Caitlyn Ray.

    BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College senior pitcher Kara Cunningham threw her first career no-hitter in an 8-0 five-inning victory over Converse College in the opening game of the team’s final doubleheader of the regular season Thursday afternoon. The Bobcats completed the sweep of the Valkyries with a 5-2 victory in game two to close out their regular season with an overall record of 17-17 and 11-9 in league play.

Lees-McRae came out on top in game one by a score of 1-0 before falling in game two in eight innings by an 8-7 final tally. The results Tuesday move Lees-McRae’s record to 15-17 overall and 9-9 within conference play this spring.

    BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College softball team split a pair of games on the road at King University Saturday afternoon in Bristol, Tennessee. The Tornado edged the Bobcats 1-0 in game one before Lees-McRae rebounded to take game two, 5-1. The split pushes Lees-McRae’s 2019 record to 14-16 overall and 8-8 within conference action.
  • Bobcats prep for three conference doubleheaders in three days

    BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team will return to action this weekend three doubleheaders in three days. The Bobcats will begin this stretch by traveling to King (Tenn.) University on Saturday before returning home to host Limestone on Sunday and Converse on Monday. Saturday’s and Sunday’s games are set to get underway at 1 p.m., while Monday’s is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
  • Faith Cooke named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week

    HIGH POINT, N.C. – Lees-McRae College softball player Faith Cooke was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Cooke becomes the first Bobcat to take home this honor since March 29, 2011 when former Bobcat Paige Coleman earned the same award.

First, Sunday’s doubleheader against Catawba has been cancelled and will not be made up. Additionally, the twin bill against Converse scheduled for Monday has been postponed with no make-up date announced as of yet.

Lees-McRae fell in game one 4-3 in eight innings before bouncing back to game two, 6-5. Furthermore, senior Kara Cunningham became the program’s all-time strikeout leader with 11 strikeouts against the Lions bringing her career total to 434.
