JACKSON, Wyo. - The Lees-McRae College Ski and Snowboard team was represented at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Nationals event in Jackson, Wyo. back on Mar. 12-16 by freshman Lili Bauer and sophomores Alex Broussard and Chandler Houck.
Day One - The competition on Tuesday (Mar. 12) consisted of the women’s railjam and men’s boardercross events. Bauer finished 12th in the women’s rail jam event, while leading Lees-McRae to a sixth-place team finish in the event. In the men’s boardercross event, Broussard would record a 10th-place finish, while Houck would finish 40th. Lees-McRae finished ninth in the team standings.
Day Two - Wednesday (Mar. 13) consisted of the men’s rail jam and the women’s boarder cross events. Bauer led Lees-McRae to a fourth-place finish with 59 points while placing third individually in the boardercross event through a crowded field. Broussard finished 19th in the railjam, while Houck finished 36th.
Day Three - Thursday (Mar. 14) was the slalom event for both men and women. Bauer paced Lees-McRae to a seventh-place finish in the team standings with a third-place finish individually to land her second spot on the podium. The Lees-McRae men finished tied for 16th in their event.
Day Four - Friday (Mar. 15) consisted of the men’s and women’s slopestyle events. Bauer led Lees-McRae to a fourth-place finish on the women’s side with a ninth-place finish individually. Lees-McRae’s men finished seventh in the event, thanks to a 15th-place finish from Alex Broussard and a 26th-place finish from Houck.
Day Five - The final day (Saturday, Mar. 16) consisted of the men’s and women’s giant slalom events. Bauer led Lees-McRae to a seventh-place finish in the team standings with a fifth-place finish of her own, while Lees-McRae’s men finished ninth with Broussard finishing 12th and Houck finishing 41st.
Overall, the Lees-McRae men’s team finished seventh in freestyle and ninth in alpine combined events. The Lees-McRae women’s team finished fourth in the freestyle and seventh in the alpine combined events.
Broussard’s performance was good enough for eighth overall in the men’s freestyle events. Bauer’s performance over the entire week of events was good enough to place her fifth overall in women’s alpine events and seventh in freestyle. Bauer was also recognized as a USCSA Academic All-American.
This concludes the collegiate ski and snowboard season.
