The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats basketball team hosted defending Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Champions Anderson University, falling 63-42 in the Lady Bobcats home opener. The Lady Bobcats fall to 0-2 (0-1 CVAC) while the Lady Trojans of Anderson even their record at 1-1 (1-0 CVAC).
Mikala Fogle-Wilson started the scoring for the visitors before Stephanie Mullinax would tie things up for the home side. Unfortunately for Lees-McRae, that would be the only tie of the game. The defending champs would come back with aggressive defense and capitalized on offence, going on a 23-6 run, and racing out to a 17 point lead. Back to back three pointers by Victoria Valentine and Dianca Jones would close the gap to 11; however the experience and depth of the talented Lady Trojans would prevail, taking a 15 point lead into halftime.
The second half would see the Lady Trojans extend their lead to 25 before the Lady Bobcats began to claw back. Unfortunately, the deficit was too great, and the Lady Bobcats dropped their second straight to open up 2006-07.
Latrice Thomas led the visitors with 18 points and six rebounds. Fogle-Wilson added 14 while Deidra Langston scored 11 and shared the team lead in rebounds with Keana Boyd pulling down eight each. Boyd also scored in double figures, putting 11 points.
Mullinax led the Lady Bobcats in points and rebounds with 12 and six respectively. Jessica Lunsford, (pictured left), was the only other Lady Bobcat in double figures, registering 10 points in her collegiate debut on home court.
Lees-McRae will take some time off for Thanksgiving and get back
in action November 30th when Lincoln Memorial University visits
Williams Gymnasium. The Lady Bobcats battled LMU in their home
opener, falling 55-50 in Harrogate, TN.
