Lady Bobcats Claw All Stars

The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team earned their first win under Head Coach Sebastian Wild with a 67-61 victory over the visiting Converse College All Stars. Lees-McRae improves to 1-4 on the season, while the All Stars drop to 1-7.

The Lady Bobcats started out strong, jumping out to a 9-0 lead, extending the lead to as much as 16-2, before Converse was forced to call time out. Slowly but surely the visitors managed to chip away at the Lady Bobcats lead, cutting it down to eight, as the teams went into halftime with the home side up 27-19.

The All Stars seemed to gain the momentum to start the second half, going on an 11-6 run to cut the Lady Bobcat lead to three. Wild's time out half way through the second half allowed the Lady Bobcats to regroup, settle their emotions and back on track. Afterwards, the Lady Bobcats regained control of the game, and took home their first win of the 2006-07 campaign.

Stephanie Mullinax, (pictured top left), led the Lady Bobcats with a game high 27 points and 8 rebounds. Brittany Roberson and Victoria Valentine each chipped in eight points, while Amber Benfield went two for three from the field, all from behind the three point arc, to contribute six points.

Sydney Brown led the All Stars with 14 points, 12 of which came from three point range. Ashley Arff added eight points for the visitors while Lauren Haloulos, Betsy Ruppert and Stephanie Whitaker all added six.

The Lady Bobcats will close out 2006 on the road with a game at Brevard College, Saturday December 9th.
