Banner Elk, NC--In their first home contest of the new year, the Lees-McRae Women's Basketball team defeated conference foe Mount Olive College by a score of 78 to 56. The Bobcats were led by Dianca Jones and Stephanie Mullinax who both contributed 16 points to the winning effort. Jones also led the team in assists with 5 and Mullinax grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds.
The contest was a game of runs. The Lady Bobcats led the entire game and started play with an early double-digit lead. Mount Olive College put together a run of their own to cut the deficit but they would find themselves down by a score of 23 to 41 heading into the locker room for halftime.
In the second half, the Bobcats were able to hold off the Lady Trojans despite a double-double and game highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds for Helen Moore. Jill Oaks added 13 points and Keshaun Mozee had 8 assists. The Bobcats were able to spread the ball around and had a field goal percentage of 50.9% in comparison to the Trojans 29.9%, which would be the difference in the game.
The Lady Bobcats will return to the court Monday as they travel
to Belmont, North Carolina as they face the Belmont Abbey Lady
Crusaders. Tip-Off is scheduled for 5:30 pm and will be followed by
the Men's game.
