Abbey Too Much For Lady Bobcats

The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team resumed Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference action Monday evening, traveling to Belmont Abbey to face the Lady Crusaders. Abbey prevailed with a 66-50 win to improve to 5-6, (2-3 CVAC), while the Lady Bobcats dropped their second straight to fall to 3-6, (1-3 CVAC).

Kelsey Daniel and Courtney Naquin led Belmont Abbey with 11 points, while Emma Camp added ten. The Abbey, which led for all but 27 seconds in the contest, came out strong with a 16-6 run, extending the lead to as much as 12 before the Lady Bobcats came back roaring back with an 11-0 run over their own in a five minute span. The Lady Bobcats would take their only lead of the game, 23-22 with just under five minutes to play in the first half before Naquin sunk two from the charity stripe to ignite a 10-3 Lady Crusader run, giving the home side a 32-26 lead heading into halftime.

The Lady Crusaders picked up where they left off in the first with a 10-2 run, opening up a 14 point lead at 42-28, just under four minutes in. The Lady Bobcats would again claw their way back into the game, cutting the deficit to seven at 46-39 with 11:35 left, but the Lady Crusaders would take firm control with a 10-0 run. The onslaught would leave the Lady Bobcats trailing, 56-39 with seven and a half minutes to play, allowing Abbey to cruise to the home court win.

Stephanie Mullinax, (pictured top left), led the Lady Bobcats attack with game highs in points, 19 and rebounds, eight. Whitney Dodgen and Dianca Jones added nine points a piece for the visitors.

The Lady Bobcats will resume conference action Thursday when they travel to Limestone College. Tip off is set for 5:30pm.
