Lady Bobcats Claw Erskine

The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team defeated the Erskine College Flying Fleet 85-68 Thursday evening in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference. The win was the Lady Bobcats third in the past four games.

A pair of Flying Fleet free throws to start the game was the only lead the visitors would have, as the Lady Bobcats came out hungry on home court, looking to make up for a devastating overtime road loss two days earlier. Dianca Jones kickstarted the Lady Bobcats attack finding Cortney Furr behind the arc for an open three to get the home side on the board. After back to back field goals, one from behind the arc, from Jones the Lady Bobcats were in full control and led for the remainder of the game. After extending their lead to eleven, the Flying Fleet began to battle back. With their lead down to five, Jones regained control for the Lady Bobcats scoring three field goals off of three steals at mid court, all within 1:47 to restore Lees-McRae's eleven point cushion, 39-28. The Lady Bobcats would settle for a nine point lead, 42-33, heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Fleet would slowly chip away at Lees-McRae's lead from the opening inbounds play. However, Erskine was only able to get as close as a pair. The Lady Bobcats called time out with 6:38 remaining, leading 64-62. The Lady Bobcats responded with a 13-0 run, and a 77-62 lead to cement the win.

Jones, (pictured top left), led the Lady Bobcats with game and career highs in points, 26, assists, 8 and steals, 6. Brittany Roberson went five for five from the field, adding 12 points and a game high six rebounds while Cameron Crapps also posted a career high ten points. Furr added eight points going two for three from the field, all from behind the arc, and burying her two attempts from the charity stripe.

Audrey Timmerman led the Fleet in scoring with 23 points, off of seven three pointers. Lisa Jackson added 16 points for the visitors while Karen Anger chipped in with 11.

The Lady Bobcats move to 6-10, (4-6 CVAC) while Erskine falls to 4-11, (3-7 CVAC).

Lees-McRae will take on conference leader, #23 Anderson, 15-2 (9-1 CVAC) next Monday evening at 5:30pm.
