Lady Bobcats Claw Win From Saints

The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team clawed their way back from a 19 point deficit in the first half to defeat Limestone College 72-70 in Carolinas Virginia Athletic Conference action Monday evening. The Lady Bobcats improve to 9-16, (7-11 CVAC) while Limestone also moves to 9-16, (8-10 CVAC).

Limestone came out of the gates flying, quickly establishing control with a 12-3 lead just under four minutes into the contest. The Lady Saints extended their lead to nineteen, 33-14 with 6:58 to play in the half. Game high scorer Dianca Jones got things started for the Lady Bobcats, keying an 18-1 run over the final seven minutes to head into halftime trailing 34-32.

With momentum tied things up just twenty-five seconds into the second, but the Lady Saints hung tough, re-establishing the lead with their next possession. After four ties, the Lady Bobcats grabbed the lead for the first time, 51-50, with 13:05 to play. The teams would exchange the lead once more, with the Lady Bobcats maintaining a four point cushion over the final two minutes. Tiffany Jones cut the lead to two, 69-67 with 0:22 to play, forcing the Lady Saints to foul. The Lady Bobcats' Dianca Jones made good on both of her attempts to gain back the four point cushion. Limestone's Tiffany Jones continued to have the hot head in the clutch for the visitors nailing a three pointer with 0:07 on the clock. Dianca Jones was again sent to the line, splitting her attempts. Ariel Lyons grabbed the rebound for the Lady Saints and made a final three point attempt that sailed wide.

Dianca Jones had a game high 31 points, her third consecutive 30+ point game, and also contributed eight rebounds. Brittany Roberson, (pictured top left), contributed ten points, ten rebounds for the double. Roberson also broke the school record for most blocks in a game with five. The previous mark was four, set by Robin Scott '95 in the 1993-94 season.

The Lady Saints had four players scoring in double digits with Blanca Gonzalez leading the way with 19. Lindsay Kyle drained 15, while Lyons and Tiffany Jones chipped in with eleven and ten respectively.

The Lady Bobcats will travel to Erskine College Thursday before wrapping up their season Saturday afternoon with a home contest against Coker College. The Lady Bobcats seniors will be honored prior to the game Saturday.
