BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team hosted the Tusculum Lady Pioneers Monday evening at Williams Gymnasium falling 85-56 in non-conference action. The Lady Bobcats record now stands at 2-5, (2-1 Conference Carolinas), while the Lady Pioneers improve to 5-2, all seven games in non-conference action.
The Lady Bobcats went basket for basket with the strong Lady Pioneers squad for much of the first half, grabbing their first lead, 15-14 with 13:00 to play. After exchanging the lead twice, the Lady Bobcats pulled ahead 22-18 with just over ten minutes to play. A Lady Pioneer time out seemed to wake up the visitors, as they held the Lady Bobcats to four points for the remainder of the half, and went to halftime with a comfortable 47-26 lead.
The Lady Pioneers offense did not let up in the second half, continuing the momentum built in the latter part of the first half. The Lady Pioneers used their speed and depth to coast to their second straight road win, not allowing the home side any opportunity to get back into the game.
Nikki VanDine (Columbus, OH) led the Lady Pioneers with a game high 21 points going 7 of 9 from behind the three point arc. Ashli Oliver (Kokomo, IN) chipped in with 18 points while Stephany Neptune (Wallkill, NY) added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Brittany Roberson (Salisbury, NC) led the Lady Bobcats with 15 points while Jessica Lunsford (Elk Park, NC) added 11 points and Stephanie Mullinax (Etowah, TN) chipped in with nine. Mullinax also pulled down a team high eight rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats will be back in action Tuesday evening when they host Converse College in non-conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00pm.
