Lady Bobcats Rebound Against Converse

BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats rebounded from a loss to Tusculum one night ago to top the visiting Converse Valkyries 71-51 in non-conference women's basketball action. The Lady Bobcats improve to 3-5, (2-1 Conference Carolinas) while the Valkyries fall to 1-7.

The Lady Bobcats got off to a quick start, jumping out to an 11-4 lead to start the game. The Valkyries would battle back to cut the deficit to three, however the Lady Bobcats would turn things up and go on to a 16-0 run to take control of the contest. At half time, Lees-McRae held a comfortable 38-18 lead.

After being on the losing end of such a lopsided score a night earlier, the Lady Bobcats seemed to learn a lesson from the previous loss, continuing to pour on the offense in the second half. Cortney Furr (Concord, NC) got things started for the Lady Bobcats draining back-to-back three pointers to extend the Lady Bobcats lead. The Valkyries would battle back and cut the deficit to fifteen, however the Lady Bobcats would not allow the visitors any closer as they cruised to their third win in four games.

"This was a much needed win for us. It was important for us to rebound after last night's game," commented Head Coach Sebastian Wild. "We played a very good all around game tonight, however there's always room for improvement. I am very happy with the growth and maturity of our team. We're much closer to playing a full 40 minutes."

Renee Roberson (Salisbury, NC) led the Lady Bobcats attack with a game high 17 points and also added eight rebounds. Reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the WeekStephanie Mullinax (Etowah, TN) chipped in with 16 points and a game high nine rebounds while Furr added 15, all from behind the arc, and Brittany Roberson (Salisbury, NC) added ten.

Ashley Arff (Fox Lake, IL) was the only Valkyries player to score in double figures, sharing the game high with Roberson with 17 points.

The Lady Bobcats will end their 2007 schedule with a road contest this weekend, looking to avenge a 73-70 loss at the hands of Carson-Newman November 27. The Lady Bobcats will tip off this Friday evening at Carson-Newman at 6:00pm.
