BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats hosted #21 Anderson University in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action at Williams Gymnasium Thursday evening, falling 75-39 to the powerful Lady Trojans. The Lady Bobcats fall to 5-13 (4-8 Conference Carolinas) while the nationally ranked Lady Trojans improve to 17-2 (11-1), extending their winning streak to ten games.
The Lady Trojans came out of the gates hard, winning the opening tip off and dictating the pace and tempo of the game from the beginning. Anderson opened things up quickly, establishing a 16-2 lead before the game was five minutes old. The Lady Bobcats would cut the deficit to eight, only to see the Lady Trojans re-establish the double digit cushion, moving their lead to 15. Once more the Lady Bobcats would show some fight, drawing to within nine, however once again the nationally ranked Lady Trojans would once go up 15, heading into halftime with a 41-26 lead.
The second half proved to be all Anderson, as the visitors wasted little time in getting back to business, tightening up the defense to hold the Lady Bobcats to 13 second half points. Anderson, whose only Conference loss came by way of the Lady Bobcats 56-53 upset of the then ranked 25th Lady Trojans, managed to avenge the home court defeat, controlling the game from start to finish.
Latrice Thomas and Nikki Anthony combined for more than 50% of the Lady Trojans points, sharing the game high, netting 20 points each. Stephanie Mullinax (Etowah, TN) was the only Lady Bobcat to score in double figures scoring twelve.
