DUE WEST, SC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team concluded their regular season with a Conference Carolinas win over Erskine Friday evening, topping the Flying Fleet 73-61. The Lady Bobcats finish the regular season with an 8-19 record (7-13 Conference Carolinas) while the Fleet end their year with at 4-23 (3-17).
Erskine built a quick lead (9-2) before the Bobcats could get into the rhythm of the game. After working out the bus legs, the Lady Bobcats responded and gained control of the game taking a 42-29 lead into the halftime break. During the later 20 minutes of play, Erskine played the Bobcats evenly. The Fleet outscored Lees-McRae 32-31 and forced 14 turnovers, but the effort was not enough to make up the ground lost during the first half. Lees-McRae held Erskine at bay, winning the game 73-61.
Senior Stephanie Mullinax (Etowah, TN) led the Lady Bobcats with a game high 21 points and 13 rebounds for the double double. Jessica Lunsford was two rebounds shy of her own double double pulling down eight while also draining 20 points.
Erskine sophomore Audrey Timmerman led the way for the Fleet with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Kristy Vaughn ended her collegiate career with a strong performance of 12 points and 4 rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats will enter the Conference Carolinas Tournament as the #8 seed Monday evening. Lees-McRae will battle #14 Anderson University on the road, a team they upset earlier this season at Anderson 56-53. Game time is yet to be determined.
