Banner Elk, N.C.--Head Women's Basketball Coach Sebastian Wild announced the addition of Ashley Holland to the Lady Bobcat roster for the upcoming season today. The 5'8 guard led Byrnes High School in South Carolina to numerous post season appearances in the point guard slot.
"Ashley is a great all around player with phenomenal speed and
athleticism," commented Wild about his latest signee, "She is a
tenacious, physical defender who can really turn up the heat on
that end of the floor."
Having been Byrnes' floor general for the past few years, Holland's game is not limited to the defensive end by any means. Holland is a three-time All Region selection, averaging 12 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.2 steals, and 3.9 assists since her sophomore year.
"Offensively Ashley's absolute strength is the transition game. It seems like she can get to the basket effortlessly in open court situations," stated Coach Wild. "She is a natural slasher with a great eye for her teammates, setting them up for easy scores, but is just as comfortable finishing the play herself. It should be a lot of fun watching her play with the great group that we have already assembled for the upcoming season."
Ashley Holland will complete the 2008 recruiting class for Coach Wild and Coach Fiorillo joining Emari Ready (Midlothian, Va.), Amber Coleman (Alexandria, Va.), Lauren Casey (Raleigh, N.C.), Nicole Jackson (Amelia, Va.), Kayla Newman (Charlotte, N.C.), and Jazzmin Tate (Pacolet, S.C.).
"We are extremely excited about being able to add this group of
highly talented young ladies to our program," said Wild about his
additions. "We expect to move forward into a bright future with the
Lees-McRae women's basketball program and this group is the reason
why. We cannot wait for all of them to arrive in August to get
