JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Lees-McRae women's basketball lost 92-72 to host Carson-Newman as the Lady Eagles run-and-gunned their way to a win in the second night of the Eagle Club Classic at Holt Fieldhouse Sunday.
The Lady Bobcats fall to 1-1 overall while; the Lady Eagles are now 2-0 on the season.
Three freshmen paved the way for the Lady Bobcats as Janina Thurau (Berlin, Germany) paced the team with 16 points and six rebounds. Emari Ready (Midlothian, Va.) added 13, seven boards and five steals, and Kayla Newman (Charlotte, N.C.) tallied 11 points and five steals.
Ashley Kyle led the Lady Eagles in scoring for the second consecutive night, finishing with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Carson-Newman as a team was 34-of-79 from the field, including 7-of-23 from behind the arc. The Lady Eagles had four other players reach double figures in the game.
The Lady Eagles built a 52-35 advantage by halftime and led by as many as 30 points in the second stanza.
As a team, the Lady Bobcats shot 38 percent from the floor and
36 percent from behind the three point arc.
The Lady Bobcats' next game is against Lincoln Memorial University Wednesday, November 19th at 6 p.m. in their home-opener at Williams Gymnasium.
