CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Despite taking a seven point lead into the locker room at the half, the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats fell to the Queens University of Charlotte Lady Royals 78-76 Tuesday night in their first Conference Carolinas game.
The Lady Bobcats were up by 13 with 8:40 to play when Queens sank four consecutive free throws to cut the lead down to nine. The Lady Royals chipped away at the nine point lead and got within two with 2:50 left on the clock.
Four more free throws gave Queens a one point advantage with 36 seconds left. Marissa Hudley sank two more free throws for a three point lead while Allison Williams sealed the game with two more baskets from the line.
Queens recorded its season best free throw percentage, 61.9, and total field goal percentage, 45.6, in the conference win. On the glass, the Royals pulled down 45 boards while limiting Lees-McRae to 29.
For the Lady Bobcats Cortney Furr (Concord, N.C.) led the team with 18 points, half coming from three-point baskets. Renee Roberson (Salisbury, N.C.) and Ashley Holland (Duncan, S.C.) each contributed 12.
Hudley led the Royals offense with 29 points. She also contributed nine rebounds. Jacquia Winstead scored 12 and grabbed seven boards while Allison Williams was just one point behind with 11 and also had seven rebounds.
With the loss the Lady Bobcats fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while the Lady Royals improve to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Lady Bobcats take the court after Thanksgiving, playing Saturday, December 6th at 5 p.m. against Mars Hill.
