BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats (5-6, 3-3) women's basketball team fell to the Barton College Lady Bulldogs (8-2, 5-1) 100-71 Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas game in Williams Gymnasium.
Leading the way for the Lady Bobcats was Cortney Furr (Concord, N.C.), who had 14 points, 5-11 overall field goals and 2-2 from the free throw line, and a team high five rebounds. Following Furr was Emari Ready (Midlothian, Va.) with 13 points, 3-5 field goals and 6-6 at the free throw line. Renee Roberson (Salisbury, N.C.) and Ashley Holland (Duncan, S.C.) had 11 points, while Lauren Casey (Raleigh, N.C.) had ten points. Holland had a team high eight assists.
Esty Flores had a game high 24 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Sara Fleming followed with 15 points seven rebounds. Jamila Johnson had 12 points and seven rebounds. Erica Cisneros and Kelsey Sill had 11 points and ten points respectively.
With Barton leading by one, 9-10, at the 15:26 mark, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 9-2 run to take an eight point lead, 19-11 with 12:56 left in the half.
The Lady Bulldogs pushed the lead to 19, 46-27 with 3:13 left in the first half and pushed the lead to 22, 55-33, going into the locker rooms.
In the first half the Lady Bobcats were outshot 39 percent, 11-28, compared to the Lady Bulldogs 56 percent, 21-37.
In the second half, Barton pushed the lead to 28, 75-47 with 12:53 remaining in the game. The lead was extended to 32 points a minute later, 81-49.
Barton hit the century mark with one minute left, 100-69. Lees-McRae would hit one shot in the last minute to get the final of 100-71.
In the second half, Barton continued its hot shooting going 17-38, 44 percent, in the second half. They finished the game shooting 50 percent, 38-75. Lees-McRae shot 14-33, 42 percent, in the second half and finished the game going 25-61, 41 percent.
Baton capitalized on 20 Lees-McRae turnovers for 25 points, while Lees-McRae only had 15 points on 18 Barton turnovers. Barton also out rebounded the Lady Bobcats 51-31.
Lees-McRae will host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders Wednesday, January 14th at 5:30 p.m. in a Conference Carolinas clash.
