BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte Lady Royals had four players in double figures on their way to a 80-57 win over the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats Monday night in Conference Carolinas action at Williams Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats' lone double figure scorer was Cortney Furr, who had 12 points. Lauren Casey and Jazzmin Tate had five rebounds apiece for Lees-McRae.
Marissa Hudley led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Royals. Shakaria Hamilin had 18 points, and Erin Goldner had 17 points and eight rebounds. Shakendra Hicks added ten points.
In the first half with Queens up 4-3 the Lady Royals opened a 12-4 lead by going on an 8-0 run with 12:54 left in the half. The Lady Bobcats answered with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 14-13 with 10:17 showing on the clock.
The Lady Royals responded right back with an 8-0 run to take a nine point lead, 29-20, with 4:40 in the half. Queens carried a nine point lead, 39-30, into the intermission.
Coming out of the locker rooms the Lady Royals continued their hot shooting with a 7-0 run to push the lead to 17, 47-30, with 18:53 left in the game.
The lead hit 22, 67-45, with 7:35 showing on the clock.
Queens held the lead and finished the game with a final score of 80-57.
The Lady Royals shot a sizzling 50 percent from the floor and 44 percent from behind the arc, while the Lady Bobcats shot 35 percent from field goal and 31 percent from three-point range.
Queens averaged 1.03 points per possession and 1.16 points per shot, while Lees-McRae only averaged .71 points per possession and .90 points per shot.
Queens also outrebounded the Lees-McRae 42-31.
With the loss, the Lady Bobcats fall to 5-12 overall and 3-9 in the conference, while the Lady Royals improve to 8-8 overall and 7-4 in the conference.
Lees-McRae travels to Wilson, N.C. to play Barton College Saturday, January 31st at 5:30 p.m.
