Lady Trojans Topple Lady Bobcats

ANDERSON, S.C. - Alexa Neal scored 32 points as the Anderson University Lady Trojans toppled the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats 93-67 Monday night in Conference Carolinas action in the Abney Athletic Center.

Ashley Holland led the Lady Bobcats with 25 points going 9-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-3 from three. Holland also led the team with five rebounds. Cortney Furr was the only other Lady Bobcat in double figure points with 15 points.

Neal's 32 points came on 11-of-17 from the floor and 2-of-6 from behind the arc. Neal also dished out a game high six assists. Keana Boyd chipped in with 23 points with 21 points coming from three. Genia Holbrook added 12 points, and Kirsten Peterson had the game's only double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

After two Janina Thurau free throw makes tied the game at 15 with 13:40 to play, the Lady Trojans took a ten point lead, 30-20, three minutes later on back-to-back Boyd threes.

The Lady Trojans stayed just out of reach throughout the first half, but a Furr three with four seconds before the half cut the lead to 43-40 going into the locker rooms.

In the first half, Lees-McRae outshot Anderson by going 51 percent from the floor compared to 46 percent. Lees-McRae also went 54 percent from three compared to 37 percent from Anderson.

Following the break, a Lauren Casey field goal quickly cut the lead to one, 43-42, and after a turnover, Furr knocked down another three to give Lees-Mcrae a 45-43 lead.

But Anderson would rally with a Boyd block, a Holbrook made free throw and Boyd three, which sparked a 15-0 run for the Lady Trojans to give them a 58-45 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the contest.

Neal drilled a three to push the lead to 20, 80-60, with just under five minutes left, which Anderson would use to ignite a 13-7 run to give the game the final score of 93-67.

In the second half, Anderson outshot Lees-McRae 28 percent to 56 percent from the floor. From behind the arc, Lees-McRae fell to 25 percent in the second half, while Anderson was 63 percent.

Anderson outrebounded Lees-McRae 42-31, and averaged 1.31 points per possession compared to .92 for Lees-McRae.

Lees-McRae will host the Coker College Lady Cobras in their next game Saturday, February 21st.
