Flying Fleet Rises Past Lady Bobcats, 85-74

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Lauren Casey played 37 minutes, scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats, but the Erskine College Lady Flying Fleet went 66 percent from the floor on their way to a 85-74 win Tuesday night in Williams Gymnasium.

Casey played all but three minutes in the second half during her 20-point effort. Following Casey was Cortney Furr with 18 points, 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-6 for three. Ashley Holland chipped in with 11 points and handed out four assists.

Lauren Brendle posted a game high 25 points including 21 points from behind the arc. Karen Anger had 14 points, and Porsha Morgan had 11 points.

In the first half with the score tied at eight Erskine took control of the game on a Jean Marie Harris field goal with 14:40 remaining in the half.

Erskine would pushed the lead to ten, 38-28, before the intermission on a Brendle three and would take it to 14, 44-30, when Elizabeth Tatum made a field goal before the break.

Erskine shot an impressive 60 percent, 15-of-25, from the floor and 55 percent, 5-of-9 from three in the first half. Lees-McRae was only 31 percent, 12-of-38, from field goal and a dismal nine percent, 1-of-11, from three.

Coming out of the break, the lead quickly hit 16, 49-33, on a Brendle three with 17:49 to play.

But, the Lady Bobcats would mount a comeback sparked by a 15-4 run to cut the lead to 53-58 with 12:26 remaining in the game. Lees-McRae used treys from Furr, Holland and Emari Ready during the run to close the gap.

Three minutes later, a Furr three cut the lead to 57-55, but Erskine regained control of the game with a 10-2 run highlighted by two Brendle threes to take a 67-57 lead.

Erskine pushed the lead to a game high 17 points, 81-64, with 2:38 on the clock, and ended with an 11 point lead, 85-74 at the sound of the buzzer.

In the second half Erskine heated up to 72 percent, 16-of-22, from the floor and 75 percent, 6-of-8, from three. Lees-McRae was 41 percent, 14-of-34 overall and 46 percent, 7-of-15, from three.

Erskine averaged an impressive 1.52 points per shot, while Lees-McRae averaged .94 points per shot.

The Lady Bobcats will play their final game of the regular season Thursday, February 26th at 5:30 p.m. at home against Converse College.
