Pfeiffer Rallies to Beat Lees-McRae, 61-51

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Pfeiffer University's Jamila Harris scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Falcons over the Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats 61-51 in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action on Thursday night.

Pfeiffer knocked down a dozen more free throws, with a dozen more attempts, winning their fifth-straight improving to 10-7 overall, 10-2 inside league play. Lees-McRae drops to 2-14, 2-10.

Lees-McRae led for the entire first half as Amber Coleman knocked down a three just 30 seconds into the contest. The Lady Bobcats held as much as a six-point lead on a couple of different occasions as Olivia Surratt's field goal at the 10:04 mark cut the visitors deficit down to three. A quick six-point run by Lees-McRae pushed the hosts lead back to nine after a Coleman jumper with 8:31 remaining in the period.

Collette Montgomery drained a pair of free throws with 4:36 to play in the first giving the Lady Bobcats their largest lead of the night at 29-17. Pfeiffer then closed out the half on an 8-0 run thanks to a pair of jumpers and free throws by Harris, and a couple of more free strokes from the charity stripe thanks to Shelley Reese.

Down by four at the half, the Lady Falcons came out of the locker room on a 16-3 run to find themselves up nine, 41-32, just under four minutes into the second frame. Harris and Reese picked up where they left off draining the first two shots of the period with Reese's coming from long distance.

Montgomery tried to bring the Lady Bobcats back with a basket at 11:23 getting the hosts to within five, 45-40, but Pfeiffer's Domonique China sandwiched a field goal in between two more from Harris helping the Lady Falcons to the finish line with a double-digit advantage.

Montgomery paced the Lady Bobcats with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Coleman finished with 11 points, and Lauren Casey had nine points and seven assists.

Behind Harris' game-high 21, China finished with 16 points and a half-dozen rebounds while Charlotte Fuller finished with ten.

Lees-McRae's game against Barton Saturday has been postponed due to inclement weather heading to Banner Elk, so the Lady Bobcats next game will be Wednesday at home against Limestone.
