BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team drained 14 shots from behind the arc, and placed five in double figures en route to an 83-43 victory over Lees-McRae College on Wednesday night in Conference Carolinas action.
Pfeiffer (3-4, 2-0 CC) connected on 50 percent of its attempts from the floor on the night, knocking down 56 percent of its shots from downtown while holding the Bobcats (0-6, 0-1 CC) to a 14.5 percent clip from the field. The Falcons won the battle on the glass by a 54-39 margin, including a 41-20 advantage on the defensive boards.
Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, Va.) and Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, N.C.) each recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Sam Craven (Asheboro, N.C.) connected on five three-pointers to notch a game-high 17 points. Olivia Surratt (Morganton, N.C.) and Celeste Caudill (Sparta, N.C.) also scored in double figures, tallying 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Caudill dished out a game-high six assists.
Icey Patterson (Seneca, S.C.) paced the Bobcats with 12 points, while Chloe Parker (Chicago, Ill.) and Candace Flowers (Charlotte, N.C.) each tallied seven points. Parker, Sophie Witte (Hamburg, Germany), and Zuyke Smith (Chesterfield, Va.) led the Bobcats with five rebounds each, while Patterson posted a game-high seven steals.
Harvey put Pfeiffer up 16-0 early on with a layup at the 14:28 mark until a Smith layup got Lees-McRae on the board 30 seconds later. Pfeiffer pushed the advantage out to as much as 34 with less five minutes remaining on layups by Cox and a Caudill triple. Craven scored three of her game-high 17 points midway through the second half to put Pfeiffer up by as much as 50, until a final push by the Lady Bobcats and back-to-back baskets by Patterson cut the deficit to 36.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Saturday when the Bobcats travel to Wilson, N.C. to continue their conference schedule against Barton College. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Wilson Gym.
