HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College senior Janina Thurau (Berlin, Germany) garnered all-Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball recognition for the first time in her career on Thursday, earning a spot on the third team after leading the Bobcats to the program's first conference tournament berth since 2008.
Thurau paced the Bobcats with 10.9 points per contest this season, including a game-high 21 markers against Barton in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament on Tuesday. The 5-10 guard/forward averaged 3.8 rebounds per game this season, recording 39 assists and 32 steals while shooting at a .371 clip from beyond the arc.
A native of Berlin, Germany, Thurau tallied a pair of 20-point games this season, while recording at least 10 points in each of her final 10 contests. Thurau concludes her Bobcat career with 549 points and 80 steals in 73 games in the Green and Gold.
Lees-McRae is expected to return 11 letter-winners from this year's squad, which earned the program's first berth in the conference tournament since 2008. Rising seniors Amber Coleman (Alexandria, Va.) and Chloe Parker (Chicago, Ill.) are expected to headline next year's team, aided by rising juniors Icey Patterson (Seneca, S.C.), Candace Flowers (Charlotte, N.C.), Zukye Smith (Chesterfield, Va.), and Sophie Witte (Hamburg, Germany).
