MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. --- The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team utilized a balanced offensive attack en route to a 70-54 win over Milligan College in an exhibition matchup on Tuesday night.
Lees-McRae shot 52 percent from the floor, including a 62.5 percent clip from outside the arc, while out-rebounding Milligan by a 36-20 margin and holding the Buffalos to a 36.1 percent mark from the field.
Sophie Witte (Hamburg, Germany) paced the Bobcats with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting, while Paige Whitaker (Harrisburg, N.C.), Megan Tate (High Point, N.C.), and Kerri Belcher (Roanoke, Va.) each chipped in eight points. Chloe Parker (Chicago, Ill.) and DeAnna Waters (Upper Marlboro, Md.) also added seven points each, as Juliana Faltus (Berlin, Germany) posted a game-high eight rebounds.
Jaimme Hill led the way for Milligan with a game-high 14 points on 7-of-15 shooting, as Alisha Mainer and Johneshia Good each added eight markers.
The Bobcats would rally from an early 22-14 deficit in the first half, answering with an 18-6 run to take a 32-28 lead into the intermission following a clutch three-pointer from Candace Flowers (Charlotte, N.C.).
Milligan fought back in the second half, cutting the lead to 38-36 on a Good jumper before Lees-McRae responded with a 13-7 spurt to open a 51-43 margin on a pair of free throws from Waters. After the Buffaloes trimmed the lead to 55-50, the Bobcats closed out the game on a strong note with a 15-4 surge.
Lees-McRae opens its regular season on Saturday when the Bobcats host Barber-Scotia College at 2 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
